What is this?

We're Bethany and Robert. Our first child, Colette, recently made her debut on planet earth. She's pretty great and we thought this would be a nice way to share her with everyone. Expect thoughts, anecdotes, and lots of pictures.
Santa

Santa

Saturday Colette napped for hours while we got some Christmas shopping done. The mall was packed, but she slept through everything. We woke her to get her photo taken with Santa. We are definitely excited to start this family tradition with her.

We are looking forward to her first Christmas and her upcoming baptism (and party!) in January.

Seven weeks!

Seven weeks!

She looks so much bigger than she did when she was born. She feels much more “solid” when we pick her up, too. Her first Thanksgiving is just around the corner – exciting times!

Sleep

Sleep

This should come as no surprise to most parents (and if it a surprise, who are you and do you really exist?), but babies have no sleep schedule. None at all. Zero. Doesn’t happen.

Some nights, Colette will happily sleep for four hours. Then, she’ll eat and fall right back asleep for another three. These are incredible nights and the days that follow are filled with happy moods.

Other nights, like last night, are something else altogether. We went to sleep around 11:00pm. Colette woke around 2:00am. No big deal, right? Wrong. She absolutely refused to fall asleep after that, unless she was cuddling with Bethany. If we placed her back in her crib, she would grunt and cry until we came and got her.

All things considered, she has been a pretty easy baby so far. We’re counting down the weeks until she sleeps through the night – the internet tells us that happens around three months. Then again, some babies apparently don’t fall into a routine until waaaaay after that.

Today, she mostly slept. We’ve heard that sleep begets sleep, so here’s hoping.

Halloween is tomorrow. Colette is a ladybug this year. Many pictures will be taken.

Her feet – part two

Her feet – part two

At the request of Bethany’s dad, we took another picture of Colette’s feet – this time, in Bethany’s hands. It seemed a little corny, but I bet I’ll feel different about it in, say, 20 years.

On a related note, her feet look so tiny here, but they seem so much bigger to me than they did four weeks ago. She’s growing up!

Mother and daughter

Mother and daughter

And Stella, too!

We spent a lot of time trying to get this photo – it’s pretty tough trying to get a baby and a dog to sit still. Stella (our dog) was actually the more cooperative party. Just say “bonie” and she’s pretty much at attention for a good five seconds. At any rate, we think the result was worth it.

Believe it or not, but this is our first official mother/daughter picture even though Colette is nearly three weeks old!
